Longboard skating on a Deviate Pretender

Go Skate Day (GSD) is a day dedicated to the love of skateboarding. Celebrated annually on June 21st, it invites skaters of all skill levels to take to the streets, parks, and ramps in a global display of skateboarding passion. This day isn’t just about skating—it’s about community, creativity, and freedom on four wheels.

Whether you’re a street skater, longboarder, downhiller, freestyler, or simply love cruising, Go Skate Day is about you.

History of Go Skate Day

GSD was started in 2004 by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC). The idea was simple: create a day where skateboarders and longboarders everywhere could unite and share their love for the sport. Since then, it has grown into a worldwide event with activities held in major cities across the globe.

Purpose of GSD

At its core, GSD aims to promote skate culture and encourage community participation. It’s about giving back to the sport that brings joy and excitement to millions. By fostering a sense of belonging, GSD helps to strengthen local skate communities and inspire the next generation of skaters. It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out—everyone is welcome. All you need is a love of rolling on four wheels! This day celebrates the diverse and eclectic nature of skateboarding, bringing together people from all walks of life.

Supporting Skateboarding as a Sport

GSD also aims to support and elevate skateboarding as a legitimate sport. By showcasing the skills and creativity of skaters, this event helps to push the boundaries of what’s possible on a skateboard. It’s a day to challenge oneself, share tricks, and inspire others.

What Can You Do on Go Skate Day?

  • Go Skate: Skate to work, school, the store, or down your driveway. Skate anywhere—just get out and roll!
  • Grab a Friend: Introduce a friend to skating. Help them discover the thrill of those first few pushes and glides. Who knows, you might create a new skate buddy.
  • Call Your Skate Crew: Organize a skate meet-up with your skating buddies. Hit up your favorite skate spots or explore new routes.
  • Challenge Yourself: Try a new trick, skate to a new place, skate a long distance, or tackle that hill you’ve been eyeing for years.

GSD is more than just a day to skate—it’s a celebration of a culture that values creativity, community, and freedom. Whether you’re an avid skater or just curious about the sport, this day offers something for everyone. Grab your board, hit the streets, and be part of this global movement.
