What is Go Skate Day?

Go Skate Day or GSD, is a day dedicated to the love of skateboarding. It’s celebrated annually on June 21st, inviting skaters of all skill levels to take to the streets, parks, and ramps in a global display of skateboarding passion. This day isn’t just about skating—it’s about community, creativity, and freedom on four wheels.

Weather you’re a street skater, longboarder, downhiller, freestyler, or simply love cruising on four wheels – this day is about you.

History of Go Skate Day

GSD was started in 2004 the International Association of Skateboard Companies. The idea was simple: create a day where skateboarders and longboarders everywhere could unite and share their love for the sport. Since then, it has grown worldwide with events held in major cities across the globe.

Purpose of GSD

At its core, GSD aims to promote skate culture and encourage community participation. It’s about giving back to the sport that brings joy and excitement to millions. By fostering a sense of belonging, GSD helps to strengthen local skate communities and inspire the next generation of skaters.  It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out—everyone is welcome. All you need is a love of rolling on four wheels! This day celebrates the diverse and eclectic nature of skateboarding, bringing together people from all walks of life.

Supporting Skateboarding as a Sport

GSD also aims to support and elevate skateboarding as a legitimate sport. By showcasing the skills and creativity of skaters, this event helps to push the boundaries of what’s possible on a skateboard. It’s a day to challenge oneself, share tricks, and inspire others.

What can you do?

  • Go Skate – Skate to work, school, the store, down your driveway, skate to a local place to grab dinner or drinks. Go anywhere – just skate!
  • Grab a Friend – Grab a friend who doesn’t skate and take them skating. Help them discover the stoke in those first few pushes and glides.  Who knows, maybe you’ll create a new skate pal.
  • Call Your Skate Crew – Call up your skating buddies and organize a skate meet up. Hit up your favorite skate spot or maybe explore some new spots, routes, etc.
  • Challenge Yourself – Try a new trick, skate to a new place, skate a long distance, try that hill you’ve been eyeing for years.

GSD is more than just a day to skate—it’s a celebration of a culture that values creativity, community, and freedom. Whether you’re an avid skater or just curious about the sport, this day offers something for everyone. Grab your board, hit the streets, and be part of this global movement.
