Summertime Longboarding Essentials
Summer is here, and there’s no better time to hit the streets and carve up some asphalt on your longboard. Having the right gear can make all the difference in your longboarding experience. At Deviate Board Co., we’re passionate about handcrafting the best longboards and pairing those with accessories to enhance your ride. Here’s a rundown of summertime longboarding essentials to keep you rolling.
The Longboard
First things first, you need a quality longboard that is right for you and your riding style. Our handcrafted longboards at Deviate Board Co. are made from solid wood and designed with our surfing roots in mind. Each board is meticulously crafted in our Brooklyn workshop to ensure top-notch quality and performance. Whether you prefer cruising, carving, min-longboards, full-size longboards or something in-between, we have a board that fits your style.
Check out our collection of longboards to find the perfect one for you. And if you have something specific in mind, we build custom longboards.
Safety Gear
Safety should always be a priority. Proper safety gear can prevent injuries and keep you confident on your board. Essential safety gear includes:
- Helmet: A good helmet is non-negotiable. It protects your head from serious injuries. Make sure it fits snugly and is certified for skateboarding.
- Pads: Knee and elbow pads are crucial, especially for beginners. They protect your joints from scrapes and impacts.
For high-quality safety gear, check out the offerings from Triple Eight. We aren’t affiliated, but have been wearing their gear for years and highly recommend them.
 Proper Footwear
Wearing the right shoes can greatly impact your longboarding experience. Look for shoes with flat soles and good grip to ensure stability and control. Skate shoes from brands like Vans and DC Shoes are excellent choices. They offer durability, comfort, and the right amount of grip for longboarding.
Although, if you are into barefoot longboarding, go for it. Our longboards are gripped with a light grit grip that is comfortable to ride barefoot. So go ahead and wrap those toes on the nose.
 Hydration
Staying hydrated during those hot summer days is key. Carry a reusable water bottle with you to keep yourself hydrated throughout your ride. Consider using hydration packs from CamelBak, which allow you to drink water without stopping on those long cruises. Or better yet, plan a cruise to your favorite watering hole to meet up with some friends!
 Maintenance Tools
Keeping your longboard in top condition requires some simple regular maintenance. For more information, check out our blog on this topic here.
 Local Skate Spots
Exploring new skate spots can add excitement to your longboarding adventures. Research local parks, trails, and skate-friendly areas in your community. A simple Google search should help in locating those awesome longboard friendly spots.
 Join the Community
One of the best parts of longboarding is the community. Joining a local longboarding group or participating in events can enhance your experience and help you learn from others. Social media platforms like Instagram / Facebook, etc. have active longboarding communities where you can connect with fellow enthusiasts, share tips, and organize meetups.
